Opportunity, Think Soham
Entec has worked closely with East Cambridgeshire District Council (ECDC) to produce the Soham Masterplan Vision - Draft for Consultation. The masterplan sets out a vision for the future development of Soham up until 2031 and has involved working closely with residents to pull together a range of views and aspirations for the town into a single coherent document.
A huge amount of public support has already developed for the plans, and the formal consultation period began on 17th February following nearly a year of detailed research, public events and exhibitions. The plan will look at gateways to Soham from the east and west, employment opportunities and a revitalised town centre. There is also the possibility of a new railway station as well as new leisure activities and homes to strength the local community. As part of the consultation there will be a two-day public exhibition at Soham Methodist Church Hall on the 11th and 13th March, presentations at local Neighbourhood Panel meetings and permanent displays at the Soham Pavilion and the library. |

Copies of the draft plan will also be available online and in paper copies throughout the consultation along with questionnaires to feedback on the draft plan.
Councillor Derrick Beckett, Chairman of the Soham Masterplan Vision Working Party, said:
“There has been an incredible amount of support for the draft Masterplan over the last year, with residents in Soham getting behind the ideas and concepts which we have put forward. The report conveys the strategic importance of Soham, as a place of sustainable growth for the 21st Century – somewhere that drives forward change. To succeed and grow Soham must cast off the image of a worn out market town and become something new which can bring lasting benefits to us all.
"We have already had great success talking to individuals, businesses and organisations about how the town should look over the next twenty years – they are keen to develop the possibilities of the town. The key now is to harness this genuine excitement one more time as we get closer to completing our work. We intend to have a number of events to engage with as many people as possible between February and March as we look to build on the impetus which has developed over the last few months. We would like to build on Soham's past and create a future which can make the town a key part not only of the district but also the county."
Comments are being requested as part of the consultation process by encouraging people to visit the ECDC website.
The consultation on the Masterplan closes on Wednesday 31st March 2010. If you would like any further information, please contact Entec’s Project Manager and Masterplanner Mark Brightburn on 01926 439080.
